When photography is practiced in its most familiar role, it can best be defined as a Narrative depiction of a time and place, recorded in real time by use of a camera. Here the preexisting elements found in the scene have not been arranged or introduced and as such are not exclusive to the photographer. And while the elements that comprise the scene may not be exclusive to the photographer. The message expressed may be.
In photographs role as a Narrative the photographers influence is limited primarily to the operation of the camera and in the composition of the scene. Here the recorded image is the objective. My approach to the use of photography is more conceptual where the recording of the image represents the first step in a process that redefines an existing reality with the introduction of content and other changes made to its appearance. These changes can be made in the physical world either prier to it being recorded or in the digital world of post-production with its many possibilities.
Some of my favorite subject matter deals with our preconceptions of our sexuality and religion. Why because at least one if not both will have an effect on your life.
