The Four Pillars for categorizing Photography

The Narrative : This represents photography’s most traditional role, as the recording of an undisturbed existing reality. Where the photographers intent is found primarily in the operation of the camera and composition of the scene.

The Subjective Narrative : This is where the photographer makes physical changes to the existing elements found in the scene, expressing their particular point of view.

Conceptual Narrative : This is where the photographer makes physical changes to the scene with the introduction of content. In the analog world this would be the physical addition of props or other elements secured by the photographer.

Conceptual Imagined : This may be a combination of several of the other categories. Where the image did not exist in real time, and is the result of post-production. What should be emphasized is that the resulting image and its interpretation should go beyond the superficial changes that only alter the appearance of the original image.
